Tiger Spirit is an independent school teaching Shotokan based Karate.

Tiger Spirit was opened by Sensei Andrew Lock in February of 1998. We teach a mix of modern, progressive, and practical Karate while maintaining a balance of traditional martial arts methods and values.

We are not a competition orientated school. Our focus is not on tournaments and winning trophies. Our focus is on teaching Karate to the best of an individual’s abilities. So we are suited to people who want to learn a martial art in a friendly, safe and inclusive environment.

It is encouraged that students learn from each other, a higher rank has a duty of care when paired off with a lower rank to watch over them, and coach them if needed. In this way everyone’s karate experience is learned from.

Tiger Spirit is not the vision and wisdom of a single person; it has been shaped over the years by many of its students experiences. Young, old, tall, short, weak, strong, everyone is unique and has experiences that can be learned from.

Our students range in age from 5 years old to students in their 60’s. We offer classes to suit children, teenagers and adults.

Tiger Spirit has the option for families to train together and share in their martial arts experience. Mums, dads, daughters and sons can train in the same class.
